Derek is passionate about taking action climate change and has been focusing his professional interests on supporting the cleantech and renewable energy sectors. He is currently leading a strategic initiative on behalf of the WTC Winnipeg to focused on climate change and business, new opportunities in the low carbon economy, and clean technologies.

He volunteers his time and is involved with numerous committees and organization. He currently is a sub-committee member with the Province of Manitoba’s Look North economic development strategy, and an active board member with SEED Winnipeg (Supporting Employment and Economic Development), which is a not-for-profit agency that fights poverty and helps renew Winnipeg's inner city, and the World Trade Centres Association (WTCA) Global Standards Committee.

Derek and his wife Corrine live in Winnipeg, Manitoba and have two children, Armand and Joséphine. Fully bilingual, they are raising their children in French.
