Winnipeg solar project competing for national award

Sycamore Energy’s FortWhyte Alive solar array the first of its kind in Winnipeg

Winnipeg – November 24, 2017 – A trail-blazing solar energy project in Winnipeg is in the running for a prestigious award.

Sycamore Energy is nominated for Solar Developer of the Year at the Canadian Solar Industries Game
Changer Awards, for its solar installation at Winnipeg’s FortWhyte Alive environmental, education and recreation center.

Sycamore Energy, operating as Solar Manitoba, completed the installation of 168 solar panels and
related infrastructure in just 6 days in the fall of 2017. It is the first ground-mounted solar array in
Winnipeg and largest solar installation in the city.

The 57kW project will provide 50% of the net annual energy requirements of FortWhyte Alive’s farm
site. Any excess energy will be consumed by the main pavilion. The project qualified for Manitoba
Hydro’s Power Smart rebate, which reduced the overall cost by approximately 25 per cent.

“This nomination highlights not only the leading role Sycamore Energy has taken in solar installations in Manitoba, but also our commitment to finding innovative, cost-effective and environmentally
responsible solutions for our customers,” says Sycamore Energy President Justin Phillips.

FortWhyte Alive is situated on 640 acres of prairie, lakes, forest and wetlands. The site and design of the project were chosen carefully to avoid any existing wildlife nesting or burrow locations, and to minimize any other environmental impact. The solar array is located prominently at the main entrance and will also be used to educate more than 100,000 visitors annually on the many benefits associated with solar energy.

“We’re thrilled to be able make clean, renewable solar energy part of our commitment to the
environment, and part of the experience for FortWhyte Alive visitors,” says FortWhyte Alive President
and CEO Bill Elliott.

The Solar Developer of the Year award recognizes excellence in the responsible development of projects through such practices as meaningful stakeholder engagement, strong project management, predicted output and project returns. The Canadian Solar Industries 2017 Game Changer Awards will be presented December 5th in Toronto.
